The most glorious thing in the world! Goodness.

I have often found that the wanting of things is actually far superior to the obtaining of the things.  There is this breath-catching feeling of anticipation and hope and wonder when one ponders upon the things one desires…but when said thing actually comes into your possession, it’s sort of…depressing, isn’t it? Like “…yeah…okay…this is a nice thing. Ho hum. Next thing, please!” If only we could reconcile that dreamy, ecstasy of wanting something to the boring reality (I imagine it’s sort of like coming down from a high, but I don’t know, I’ve lived a life of deprivation) of having it.  What a world, eh?

Unlike our outerwear-obsessed young woman above, I cannot profess to get all swoony and ecstatic over the thought of a coat, but I’ll admit that fine fragrances and strange baubles cause my heart to quicken a beat.

Right now I am particularly bewitched by just about everything in Holly Bobisuthi’s wondrous shop of mystical talismans.

Additionally, I am a bit besotted by Relique D’Amour Eau de Parfum by Oriza L. Legrand, described thusly: “The smell of an old chapel in a Cistercian abbey. Cold stone walls covered with damp moss. Waxed wood of altar and old pews ornate with carvings. Linseed oil in lamps. Incense and myrrh discernible in the air.”  How can I resist? This has me written all over it.

What lovely bits and baubles and fripperies are causing your heart palpitations lately? Do tell!

Steam sale, duh.

S. Elizabeth says

Ha! Of course! You know I don't really know much about Steam except this AWESOME sounding princess game which I have been dying to try https://store.steampowered.com/app/251990/

Anton says

That game is immensely fun and I recommend it.

Perfumes and make-up will drive me crazy.

S. Elizabeth says

Ah! Swoons! Yes! I might get a bit fixated on one piece of makeup every once in a while...but since I work from home and never go anywhere, I really don't wear it that often. Perfume, though! I'll stink up the whole house with it, all of it! I don't care who is around to smell it.

lau says

huzzah! i love holly. and every single thing she makes. that perfume also sounds like it smells DIVINE.

Have my eye on a coat, actually... for the long Pacific Northwest winters to come. (https://www.columbia.com/Women's-Zenith-Vista-Jacket/WL5112,default,pd.html)

S. Elizabeth says

Oh, that is a very nice, Classy Lady jacket! Psst...I found a different version of it on eBay for about half the cost https://goo.gl/Xk7L67

I remember the days of having to have a sturdy winter coat, so I guess there WAS a time I was obsessed with outerwear. I really loved the designs over at Soia and Kyo, but I can't seem to find the big puffy monstrosity I bought from them a few years ago (well, again, half off on eBay!) https://www.soiakyo.com/us/en/women/trench-coats

I think I'm in a non-consumer phase at the moment. The only things I long for are fabric and yarn and fancy sewing machines.

However, I would like to get a pair of prescription glasses, although I'm not sure if that's a decadent luxury type thing, it seems more practical here in sunny SoCal.

S. Elizabeth says

YARN -ALWAYS AND FOREVER. I don't quite have a "stash" anymore like I did when I was in NJ, though. I've learned just to buy it for the thing I am currently working on, and then maybe a future project or two, and that's it!

Anton says

There's a store near my workplace that has the big plastic dinosaurs that were turned into pots for tiny cactus & succulents. They are a bit over priced but I'm so tempted to get one.

I window shop a lot online and that kind of helps keep down my buying of things to try to soothe whatever is happening in my head.

S. Elizabeth says

Anton, I think that is a really neat idea - if you do that, I'd love to see some photos!
Myself I have been obsessing about a garden-gnome type Godzilla to place in my garden, but I can't seem to find the *exact* thing I hold in my mind's eye. Everything is too cartoon-y and I want something fearsome!

Meg says

Oh that perfume sounds lovely! It had me at "old chapel". You must tell me how it is if you buy it. I too used to be a bit of a perfume collector. It seemed I was always searching for that one signature scent. Maybe I was trying to recapture a feeling, or rather a recollection of a feeling. I am very satisfied with some recent BPAL purchases so I've been able to slow down the perfume hunt. Also, we spoke a bit about my attempt to use scents that are less synthetic. That has helped as well. For now!

The baubles are another story! Crystals & gemstones have been my weakness as of late. I've pulled back from BloodMilk (temporarily!) because I am awaiting a certain piece they are re-working and haven't released yet. But in the meantime I've acquired a few gemstones. Must. Stop. Now. LOL!

Phases, they come & go! Next month I'll be Mrs. Frugal & won't covet a single thing!
